Pop quiz: Which movie franchise has the most films in its roster? If you guessed Fast and Furious or the Harry Potter saga, (I thought it was Godzilla), you’ll be off to a slow start in Roku’s new interactive feature.
Slated to kick off today, Roku’s Weekly Trivia quiz will test your knowledge of movies, TV shows, holidays, and other cultural events, including the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
You can access the new trivia quiz from the Roku Home Screen menu. Each time you play, you’ll get 10 questions from the weekly pool. If you want to play again during the same week, you’ll get another 10 questions.
This news story is part of TechHive’s in-depth coverage of the best media streaming devices.
Among the sample questions Roku provided include the one above about which movie franchise has the most films (answer: Star Trek), what’s the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (Joker), and what’s the first feature-length animated movie ever released (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).

You can access Roku’s new Weekly Trivia challenge from the Roku home screen.

The quiz features the same art design and characters as Roku City, the popular animated screensaver that’s become something of a cult hit amongst Roku users.
Unfortunately, there’s no leaderboard for showing off your perfect “10” on the Roku Weekly Trivia challenge—Roku says “we look forward to building on the experience over time”–but you can share your results on social media with a “@Roku” tag.
The Roku Weekly Quiz arrives just days after Roku rolled out another new item on its home screen: auto-playing video ads.
Luckily, the new video ads aren’t as annoying as they could be, given that there’s no audio to go along with the images.
If the new video ads aren’t bugging you but other aspects of the Roku interface are, check out our feature about 4 simple steps to improve your Roku’s home screen.
Updated shortly after publication with a correction: You can get multiple sets of 10 trivia questions from a weekly pool, not just 10 questions per week.
